This animation was created for the Moving Parts Puppetry Festival as an ident to open their film programme, where they showcased many different types of short-form stop-motion films.

My concept focused on creating something whimsical and extravagant, transporting the viewer into a surreal world inspired by shadow puppetry. The aim was to emphasise how stop motion and other forms of physical animation can still move and engage modern audiences.

For the workflow, I began by hand-drawing all assets using paper and pen, then scanning them into Adobe Photoshop. I digitally cut and distressed the elements to resemble torn paper, enhancing the tactile, handcrafted quality. This approach reinforces the identity of Moving Parts and its emphasis on physical craftsmanship.

The animation follows the festivals shadow puppet mascots as they journey towards the theatre in the sky. Along the way, they collaborate to assemble the title, using ladders, pulleys, and a hot air balloon to lift the letters into place. This sense of cooperation reflects the festivals ethos of community and shared creativity.emphasis on physical craftsmanship.

To bring the animation together, I used Adobe After Effects with Duik to rig and animate the puppets. I also incorporated 3D layers and compositing techniques to add depth and texture. Final editing and sound integration were completed in Adobe Premiere Pro, where I paired the visuals with U235 by Kashido. The track was chosen for its energy and rhythm, helping to drive the narrative and enhance the overall atmosphere.
